Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman are smitten with each other in the first images from the new Netflix rom-com A Family Affair. A Family Affair sees Joey King playing a young assistant to a movie star who finds herself in a sticky situation when said movie star falls in love with her mom. Directed by Richard LaGravenese, A Family Affair features a leading cast including King, Efron, Kidman, Kathy Bates, Liza Koshy, Sherry Cola, Gisette Valentin, and Olivia Macklin.

Now, Netflix reveals first look images from A Family Affair. These images give a look at the leading cast in their roles, showing the romance between Efron and Kidman’s characters. The first image shows King’s character at work with Efron’s movie star character. In the second image, Efron and Kidman lovingly walk down the street. The next two images show Kidman and King with Bates’ character, and then King working with Koshy. In the final image, King looks dismayed as she sits between Efron and Kidman, holding an ice pack to her face. Check out the images below:

From these first looks, A Family Affair looks to have fun characters as King finds herself in the middle of her mother and her boss. King looks perfectly exasperated in the role, struggling to grapple with this tricky relationship. This part is a switch from King’s more typical rom-com fare. She previously played one of the lead love interests in The Kissing Booth franchise. In A Family Affair, King will take the backseat to the romance and instead play a perturbed daughter watching her mom fall in love.

A Family Affair hits Netflix on June 28, making it a good rom-com to start off the summer. The film will, however, be competing for recognition amongst a number of other rom-com titles. This includes the rom-com The Idea of You, which stars legendary actress Anne Hathaway alongside Red, White, and Royal Blue’s Nicholas Galitzine. The Idea of You releases to Prime Video this week, so it is unlikely to compete for viewership with A Family Affair, but the films will be ripe for comparison.

A Family Affair has a lot going for it in standing out from its competition. For one, all three of its main stars have a unique draw. King is already known for other Netflix work, while Efron’s acting chops have been long-recognized in the rom-com genre. Kidman brings more refined acting star power, as she is a five-time Oscar nominee. As A Family Affair approaches its late June release, hopefully the film can live up to its promising first look.
