Sigourney Weaver is looking to add another sci-fi franchise to her belt as she’s in talks to join The Mandalorian & Grogu cast. The upcoming Star Wars movie will mark the Lucasfilm franchise’s return to the big screen after seven years since The Rise of Skywalker, as well as being one of two movies spun off from the Dave Filoni Disney+ show of the same name. Plot details are currently under wraps for the movie, including which Star Wars characters will return, save for Pedro Pascal as the titular bounty hunter.

The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Weaver is in negotiations to join the Mandalorian & Grogu cast. The three-time Oscar nominee hasn’t closed her deal to star in the Star Wars universe, nor has any character details been revealed for her potential role at the time of writing. The movie is currently set for a May 22, 2026 release, with filming expected to begin this June.

Weaver’s Mandalorian & Grogu Casting Means Big Things For The Movie

Should her casting deal go through, Weaver’s Mandalorian & Grogu casting would continue one of the star’s best career trends of appearing in major sci-fi franchises. Weaver memorably found her breakout role playing Ellen Ripley in the Alien franchise, having starred in its first four movies, which she quickly followed up with the Ghostbusters series. More recently, Weaver has built on this by starring in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise as Kiri and Dr. Grace Augustine.

While her character’s details currently remain unclear, both Weaver’s recent filmography and the Star Wars franchise’s own recent castings could give some indication of who she could play in The Mandalorian & Grogu. Though typically on the protagonist’s side of things, Weaver has occasionally explored a more villainous angle with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Defenders miniseries and The Cabin in the Woods‘s The Director character. With fellow acclaimed actor Giancarlo Esposito playing the iconic Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian show, it could be interesting to see the Oscar nominee play another formidable foe for Pascal’s titular character.

10 Early Theories For Star Wars’ Next Movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu

There are many different theories as to what could happen in the upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu. How will their adventure end?

On the other side of things, it would be just as interesting to see Weaver be an ally for Pascal and the affectionately named Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian & Grogu. Given The Mandalorian season 3 saw the bounty hunter’s planet restored, the movie could introduce Weaver as a key figure in the Mandalore hierarchy, being a key advisor to Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze. However, with no deal finalized and plot details remaining unknown, there are plenty of options for who Weaver could play in the Star Wars universe.
