Why Thelma The Unicorn’s Cast Makes It An Exciting Watch
Animated films can often assemble unique pairings of in-demand actors, and Thelma the Unicorn certainly delivers. The movie boasts a stacked cast of top-tier comedic actors which includes Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), the aforementioned Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth), and Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones). Napoleon Dynamite’s Jon Heder also joins, and Zach Galifinakis is credited on IMDB as playing Crusty Trucker, suggesting fun guest slots will make even small moments count.
It’s the voice of Thelma herself, however, that may prove to be the cast’s most exciting addition. Brittany Howard is a singer, songwriter, and recording artist whose work has garnered her multiple Grammy Awards and even more nominations. Though she is currently a solo artist (and has won Grammys for that work), she rose to fame with her band Alabama Shakes, known for their hit song “Hold On” and critically acclaimed second album “Sound & Color” With plenty of musicians turning out to be good actors, it’s exciting to see Howard bringing her wealth of talent to this new role.
Non-Disney animated musicals seem to be released at a slow drip, and Thelma the Unicorn will give the audiences the chance to not only hear Howard but also enjoy the musical stylings of some of its other cast members. With music at the heart of the movie’s story, viewers will get to enjoy brand new songs from voices they already know and love. And as heard in the song featured in the movie’s trailer, Howard’s sounds as good as ever.
