Glen Powell reveals why he turned down a role in Jurassic World 4 after reading the script. With his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You, Powell has solidified himself as an emerging movie star and, in turn, has many roles lined up for the future. However, he won’t be a part of the Jurassic World 4 cast, which is in the works with a script written by David Koepp, Gareth Edwards directing, and a cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Bridgerton‘s Jonathan Bailey, and The Lincoln Lawyer‘s Manuel Garcia-Rulfo.

In a profile by The Hollywood Reporter, Powell revealed why he turned down a role in Jurassic World 4 after reading the script. It was nothing against Koepp’s script, which he thinks is “great,” as the star simply thought his presence in the movie wouldn’t help it. Instead, Powell is prioritizing projects that will not only please audiences, but will also make himself happy. Read his full comments below:

Jurassic is one of my favorite movies. It’s one of the things I’ve wanted to do my whole life. I’m not doing that movie because I read the script and I immediately was like, my presence in this movie doesn’t help it. And the script’s great. The movie’s going to fucking kill. It’s not about that. It’s about choosing where you’re going to make an audience happy and where you’re going to make yourself happy.

Powell likely turned down the role that went to Bailey.

What’s Next For Glenn Powell?

Hit Man, Twisters & More

Jurassic World 4 isn’t the only high-profile project that Powell has passed on, as he also said no to Bourne 6. More generally, Powell has also passed on “pandering Oscar bait,” and is avoiding Marvel superhero fare altogether. Since Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You, Powell has been on the top of every studio’s wish list and, in this relatively short amount of time, he has developed a reputation for being picky with his roles. Even so, Powell has an array of exciting roles lined up in 2024 and beyond.

Powell co-wrote and stars in Hit Man alongside Adria Arjona, which releases on Netflix on June 7. Directed by Richard Linklater, the film follows a strait-laced professor who moonlights as a fake hitman for the police and descends into morally dubious territory when he enters a romantic relationship with a woman who enlists his services. After it premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2023, Hit Man reviews praised the movie as an excellent showcase for Powell, earning a superb 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Glen Powell looks set to dominate screens over the next few months, which is exactly what the star deserves following his 2022 break-out role.

While Hit Man will be released on Netflix, Twisters will give Powell the chance to continue his box-office prominence. The original disaster thriller, directed by Jan de Bont, grossed $495 million and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 1996, so the standalone sequel, directed by Lee Issac Chung, has similar hopes of being a blockbuster when it releases in theaters on July 19. After that, Powell has an array of roles lined up that meet his standards and will keep him busy for the foreseeable future, including Edgar Wright’s Running Man remake.

Though it won’t star Powell,
