The trailer highlights new details about the upcoming sequel, revealing a story that involves Axel teaming up with Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s cop character to save his old partner Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold). What Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’s Trailer Reveals About The Movie

Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley smiles and holds his shades in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

In addition to the main plot, the trailer reveals returning major characters from the Beverly Hills Cop trilogy, such as John Ashton’s John Taggart and Paul Reiser’s Jeffrey Friedman. The description for the trailer unveils additional details, stating Axel’s daughter (Taylour Paige) is going to be in danger. This leads to Murphy and Gordon-Levitt teaming up to investigate a new conspiracy, the unraveling of which will lead to the many comedic action scenes teased in the trailer.

The tone of the trailer maintains the signature balance of harrowing action and goofy comedy that defines the original trilogy. While it doesn’t show anything too graphic, the R rating of the movie means there will likely be scenes of violence akin to those found in the first three movies. Since the tone is so aligned with the originals, it seems the movie is going to fit neatly into the series without any changes to its presentation that are too jarring.

Given Murphy’s dislike for the Beverly Hills Cop sequels, it’s clear the script for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F needed to stand out from the two movies that came before it. Since he’s back in the lead role, it’s a good sign of his faith in the movie, whose trailer already feels like a thrilling experience with plenty of laughs in store. Since the movie is a little over a month away, it’s possible even more about Axel Foley’s return will be revealed in the coming weeks.
