The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Alex Pettyfer reveals that costar Henry Cavill saved him from drowning during filming. Based on a book of the same name by Damien Lewis, the upcoming film is directed by Guy Ritchie with a story that chronicles the exploits of Britain’s first special forces team during World War II. The upcoming film features an impressive cast, which includes Cavill, Pettyfer, Alan Ritchson, Eiza Gonzáles, Cary Elwes, and Henry Golding, among others.
In a recent interview with ET as The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare‘s release date approaches, Pettyfer speaks about what a pleasure it was to get to work with Cavill. According to Pettyfer, Cavill even saved his life during filming when he prevented him from drowning. Check out Pettyfer’s full comment below:
“Henry has a way about him where it’s about the quality and about coming together and there is no hierarchy. He brings a humbleness to the set with everyone.
“[To Cavill] It was an amazing honor, by the way, to be on this film with you because it’s a learning curve to see how a number one treats everyone in the cast and crew. I got an email two weeks before I started filming from this man saying, ‘I’m excited to collaborate with you.’
“He saved me from falling off a boat. I nearly drowned! So I can officially say I’ve been saved by Henry. And I’m very grateful to be on this film with you.”

Henry Cavill’s New Action Movie Is Exactly What He’s Needed For The Last 9 Years
The first trailer for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare proves the action movie is exactly what Henry Cavill has needed after the last few years.
Why Henry Cavill Needs The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare To Be A Hit
Argylle Was A Major Disappointment
After starring in 2013’s Man of Steel, Cavill became a global star, but not all of his films have been hits. Cavill recently led the cast of Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle, a big-budget spy movie romp from Apple. While, on paper, the movie had the ingredients to be a hit, Argylle was a major flop in theaters.
Argylle
is now available to rent or purchase on all major VOD platforms.
Made on a budget of $200 million, the Vaughn film made only $94.9 million worldwide, a disastrous result. The Argylle reviews were overwhelmingly negative, too. Before Argylle, Cavill played a supporting role in both Enola Holmes movies, led the poorly-received Night Hunter, and appeared in a cameo in Black Adam before being officially retired as Superman. The last few years, then, haven’t been kind to Cavill on the movie front, and he’s arguably in need of a strong film to remind audiences of his leading man abilities.
It’s hard to tell from The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare‘s first trailer whether the film will have what it takes to connect with audiences, but Ritchie’s last two movies, The Covenant and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, were both financial disappointments. The upcoming film does have, however, a very strong cast, and it appears to feature an exciting mix of both action and comedy. While it remains to be seen whether The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will be the hit that Cavill needs, the new story from Pettyfer certainly affirms what a positive presence the actor is on set.
