Star Trek: Section 31 revealed its first photo and the identity of the actor Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh is threatening in the image has been revealed. Directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny, Star Trek: Section 31 marks Yeoh’s return to her iconic anti-heroine from Star Trek: Discovery, Emperor Philippa Georgiou. In the first Star Trek movie made for streaming on Paramount+, Georgiou travels through time to confront the sins of Section 31, Starfleet’s secretive black ops agency.

On his Instagram, Canadian actor and filmmaker Joe Pingue (@joe.pingue) comes forward as playing the bald, tattooed character with the metal mohawk Emperor Georgiou menaces in Star Trek: Section 31‘s first image. Although who Joe is playing in Section 31 still isn’t known, Pingue is familiar to fans of The Expanse, Orphan Black, and Station Eleven. Variety‘s cover story about the future of the Star Trek franchise dropped a bombshell about a Star Trek: Section 31 character: Kacey Rohl plays the young Rachel Garrett. Introduced in the classic Star Trek: The Next Generation season 3 episode, “Yesterday’s Enterprise,” Garrett was the doomed Captain of the USS Enterprise-C. The first female Captain of the Enterprise, Garrett is a tragic Star Trek legacy character who is fated to die to prevent a dark timeline where Starfleet is losing a war with the Klingons.

Georgiou apparently meets Garrett in the same exotic, outer space nightclub where she threatens the bald mystery man played by Joe Pingue. Star Trek: Section 31 remains shrouded in mystery, but these two revelations are compelling enough to ignite fevered anticipation for the first Star Trek movie made for Paramount+.
