Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard has carefully responded to whether or not the Monsterverse movies will ever connect to the TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The 2023 show takes place between Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, featuring a wider exploration of the Hollow Earth and new Titans. However, it’s unclear how important the story of the shoe will be to the movies that make up the main part of the franchise.
Speaking with Screen Rant ahead of the release of Godzilla x Kong, Wingard carefully responded to whether or not future movies would acknowledge Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The director said more concrete plans about if everything would connect at some point would be decided based on how well the new movie does in theaters. Check out what Wingard had to say below:
That’s a good question. I think everybody is kind of waiting around to see how the movie does this weekend, and then I think that’s when the next discussion of what the future of the franchise is probably going to look like. I think things like that will fall into place based on what the appetite is and what the plan is going to be going forward.
