One brilliant cosplay has brought Star Wars Legends Jedi Mara Jade to life, reminding audiences what could have been if Luke Skywalker’s Legends wife had become canon. Mara Jade is a fascinating character, first introduced as one of Emperor Palpatine’s assassins who wields the dark side of the Force. However, she ultimately joins Luke Skywalker, with the two eventually even marrying and having a son together. While Mara Jade isn’t canon, the character would have had massive implications for Star Wars movies and TV shows, the sequel trilogy in particular.

One cosplayer has perfectly captured the strength and skill of Mara Jade. The cosplay, posted by toxicgirlcosplay on Instagram, shows Mara Jade wielding a purple lightsaber and standing battle-ready.

Although she is currently only in Legends, Mara Jade could be included in canon, and this cosplay is an excellent reminder of what an amazing character she is.

Mara Jade Would Have Completely Changed The Sequels

Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade in Star Wars Legends.

In the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Luke Skywalker unfortunately repeats many of the prequel trilogy’s Jedi Order mistakes. In The Book of Boba Fett, it becomes clear that Luke is upholding the Jedi Order’s rule against attachments, which leads to Grogu leaving Luke’s Jedi Temple to reunite with Din Djarin. However, the sequel trilogy reveals that this was nowhere near Luke’s gravest error.

Just as the prequels’ Jedi had held Anakin Skywalker at arm’s length and been wary of him, Luke was so afraid of Ben Solo’s potential turn to the dark side that he almost killed him. Ultimately, this resulted in both Anakin and Ben becoming self-fulfilling prophecies, each turning to the dark side of the Force. Mara Jade could have changed Ben and Luke’s fate. In part, she would have done this by proving (to Luke and others) that attachments aren’t inherently bad or dangerous.

However, and arguably more importantly, her turn from the dark side back to the light would have been a constant reminder that these issues aren’t black and white and that people can change. Had Luke taken this more flexible, compassionate approach, he may just have saved his Jedi Temple. Having said that, Mara Jade could still become Star Wars canon, which would be an excellent turn for the franchise.
