John Krasinski discusses his touching reunion with former The Office co-star Steve Carell in his upcoming movie IF. For seven seasons, the duo starred alongside each other in NBC’s classic mockumentary sitcom. Following Krasinski’s time on The Office, the 44-year-old has gone on to make a name for himself as a director and writer. His forthcoming movie IF follows Bea, a young girl who suddenly develops the ability to see everyone’s imaginary friends who have been abandoned as the years go by. Carell plays one of the friends, Blue.

In a recent interview with Total Film (via Slash Film), Krasinski opened up about a heartwarming speech that Carell rendered when the two reunited on IF. Krasinski quoted a moving part of Carell’s speech while adding that it made him cry “all day.” Read his full quote below:

As much fun as it was to work with him, the most powerful part about it was
he came in with the most heartfelt speech about how proud he is of me to be making movies
. He said in reading the script, ‘I’m just so honored to be a part of it. I’ll do whatever it takes.’ So when I thought that I would be laughing all day, I was crying all day

Why Krasinski & Carell’s Reunion in IF Is Exciting

The Actors Play Off Each Other Well

When The Office was on the air, Krasinski’s Jim and Carell’s Michael were two of the biggest characters, and their dynamic was a huge part of the show’s success. Carell and Krasinski have a natural comedic chemistry that always came through on the show and will likely factor into their work in IF as well. Carell’s Blue is animated, so the actors won’t appear on-screen together. However, Krasinski’s role as IF writer, director, and producer makes it an exciting new type of collaboration for the former co-stars.

The chemistry of the cast of The Office is unrivaled, and an upcoming movie is allowing fans to witness certain famous interactions all over again.

IF features a star-studded cast alongside Carell and Krasinski – the latter will appear in the film in addition to his off-camera duties. The other cast members are equally exciting, as they include Ryan Reynolds, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Bobby Moynihan, who will all appear on-screen. The voice cast includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Vince Vaughn, and Awkwafina.

Like former co-stars Carell and Krasinski, many of the cast members come from strong comedy backgrounds. The IF trailer, which was released in late 2023, made it clear the movie will have comedic elements. In that way, it’s a perfect reunion for the former The Office cast members and, after his work on the decidedly darker A Quiet Place franchise, will see Krasinski return to the sort of compelling comedy that earned him his breakthrough many years ago.
