The trailer for Hanky Panky showcases a bizarre new horror comedy that features an evil talking hat. Hanky Panky is directed by Lindsey Haun and Nick Roth. Its cast is led by Seth Green, and also stars Haun herself, Clare Grant, Azure Parson, and Ashley Holliday Tavares.

Now, Bloody Disgusting has exclusively released the trailer for Hanky Panky, which was later unveiled by the movie’s official account. Check it out below:

The trailer begins with a slightly disconcerting interaction between a set of friends as they go together for a weekend getaway in the woods. The scene devolves after one of the friends says that they are going “to a cabin in the mountains this weekend, if it kills us all!” and another in the group asks, “Why would it? Why would it kill us all?” This creates growing suspension in the group as the action escalates, eventually revealing a talking hat character.

Hanky Panky Looks Deliciously Odd

Even the off-kilter acting itself has a charming goofiness to it, as the characters seem almost like spoofs of uncanny horror characters.

The Hanky Panky trailer has an endearingly low-budget quality to it. Outside the cabin, a piece of plywood is labeled “Ice Fishing” in Sharpie block letters. In another shot, a man getting pushed off of a deck is depicted through a simple strategic cut, rendered without fancy special effects. Even the off-kilter acting itself has a charming goofiness to it, as the characters seem almost like spoofs of uncanny horror characters.

Though he is most often associated with voice acting roles, Green’s filmography shows his knack for playing oddball roles. He has played Chris Griffin and dozens of other characters in Family Guy, as well as a number of roles in Robot Chicken. Green even makes an appearance in the off-the-wall comedy Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. This experience with humor and spoofing will make Green well-suited for his upcoming role in Hanky Panky.

Hanky Panky has been in development for a long time, as the movie started as a short of the same name. This short was also directed by Haun, who acted in that film as well, along with Tavares. Hanky Panky the short was produced in 2014 and was only 7 minutes long, so it will be interesting to see how the project has evolved with this additional runtime and a decade in between as it prepares for its release later this month.
