Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox revealed he is still interested in acting, despite retiring from the profession. Fox found fame on TV in the 1980s with a starring role in the hit NBC sitcom Family Ties, before rising to global prominence when he starred in the sci-fi classic Back to the Future in 1985. Following the success of Back to the Future, Fox starred in several hit movies, including Teen Wolf, Doc Hollywood, and Stuart Little. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991, the actor took more limited roles before announcing his retirement in 2020.

In an interview with ET Online, Fox shared that he would be open to getting in front of the camera again with some conditions. Check out Fox’s full comments below:

“I would do acting if something came up that I could put my realities into it, my challenges, if I could figure it out.”

Could Michael J. Fox Make An Acting Return?

Fox Took On Many Voice Roles.

While it is unclear what any future in the industry might hold for Fox, he is a celebrated figure in Hollywood, which could open the door for opportunities and projects.

Many actors announce their retirements and then are coaxed back with certain roles they feel unable to say no to, so there is a chance Fox could appear on-screen again. The issue in his case is that, due to his medical condition, the 62-year-old actor would be limited as to the roles he would be able to take on. It is likely that, if he were to make an acting return, Fox would probably favor voice roles, as these would most probably feel more accessible and less physically arduous for him. This has been the case with his last few projects, including A.R.C.H.I.E. and Corner Gas Animated.

While it is unclear what any future in the industry might hold for Fox, he is a celebrated figure in Hollywood, which could open the door for opportunities and projects. There has long been talk of a Back to the Future reboot, but it would unlikely feature the veteran actor in any capacity. In fact, Fox revealed his views on a Back to the Future reboot and discussed how those involved in the project can do whatever they want, but he felt it was unnecessary.
