While little is known about Daisy Ridley’s upcoming Star Wars movie, New Jedi Order, the actor is feeling optimistic and prepared with the new experience she’s gained. Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, New Jedi Order will take place fifteen years after the events of the Star Wars sequel trilogy and, as the title suggests, focuses on a new Jedi Order raised by Ridley’s Rey. Details are sparse, and a script hasn’t been completed, but Ridley reportedly knows all the beats to the new movie and promises something exciting.

In an interview with Empire, Ridley says that, this time around, she’s owning her role as Rey. The actor explains that with all the growing up she’s done, on and off-screen, things feel a bit different this time, and for the better. Compared to her experiences with her first Star Wars movies, Ridley admits she has changed. Read her full quote below:

I suppose I feel more like I’m owning it. I suppose I owned it the first time. Basically, I’m an adult now. I certainly did not feel like an adult at the time. Obviously, personally, things have changed, and professionally, I’ve had lots of other experiences, and so I definitely feel like it’s a different thing this time. There’s just a lot of joy with me and these films. Honestly, if I wasn’t excited, I wouldn’t have done it. It feels like a great thing to be a part of.

Daisy Ridley Is Ready To Reinvent Rey As The Jedi Master

Despite the reception of the sequel trilogy, more specifically Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, Ridley’s return to the
Star Wars
universe is highly anticipated.

It’s been almost five full years since Ridley appeared in the Star Wars universe, giving the actor ample time to grow and work on her craft, and she has been busy doing so. In 2021, she costarred in the critically panned Chaos Walking with Tom Holland. Afterward, she lent her voice to 2023’s The Inventor, and then gave an acclaimed performance in The Marsh King’s Daughter. Recently, Ridley’s opted for roles in much smaller movies like Sometimes I Think About Dying and Magpie.

Building up her resume with a variety of roles, it seems like Ridley has garnered valuable experience she can channel into her role in New Jedi Order. Since she’s likely to play a Jedi Master, her experience and growth can be creatively translated into the upcoming Star Wars movie, giving Rey newfound complexity and depth. Most likely, Rey will be training young Padawans and acting as a mentor to them, and Ridley can do the same in real life by welcoming new cast members to the Star Wars franchise.

Despite the reception of the sequel trilogy, more specifically Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, Ridley’s return to the Star Wars universe is highly anticipated. It seems like she’ll be returning in a worthy project, as the pitch for New Jedi Order is described by Ridley as “cool as ****,” and it is being written by Peaky Blinders scribe Stephen Knight. Sure to answer the questions of where Rey has been and what she’s been up to, New Jedi Order has no official release date yet, but Ridley’s recent reassurances promise a return that isn’t half-baked.

Star Wars: New Jedi Order

The tenth mainline installment in the Star Wars franchise is the first movie to follow the sequel trilogy, where Mark Hamill’s Luke, Carrie Fisher’s Leia, and Harrison Ford’s Han Solo gave their final farewell. After the release of The Rise of Skywalker, development on a direct sequel had become dormant as Disney shifted focus on other parts of the galaxy, namely, Disney+ shows such as The Mandalorian, Andor, and Ahsoka. However, a movie starring Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023.
