New footage for The Watchers has been revealed at CinemaCon, teasing more of what to expect from Ishana Night Shyamalan’s directorial debut. The supernatural movie created by director M. Night Shyamalan‘s daughter revolves around strangers being trapped in a box within a forest. They are also being watched by mysterious creatures in the forest, which seem to react to whatever they do.

Now, Warner Bros. has revealed new footage for The Watchers at CinemaCon, where Screen Rant was in attendance. The footage sees Dakota Fanning’s Mina speaking to her parrot, telling it she’s going out and that it should “try not to die” before the pair are stranded in the forest. Her car stalls and disappears. She ends up finding a woman who opens a door, leading to a room with a one-way window where monsters reside outside, but she can’t see them. Mina then explores a cave where a monster is hidden. It also reveals psychological elements, with a woman believing her dead husband is on a TV screen before someone escapes and is seemingly killed.

The Watchers has already teased itself to be a unique supernatural horror story, featuring both unknown monsters and strange locations. The new footage emphasizes some aspects of the film that were previously known, such as the room with the one-way window and Mina wandering outside the room at some point, The premise of the film is reflective of the novel it’s based on by A.M. Shine, showing the mystery of its story reflected onscreen.

However, the footage introduces new concepts, revealing The Watchers may have a twist that is more psychological than anything monstrous that’s been teased onscreen. While Shyamalan’s daughter could have her own style of filmmaking differentiating her from her father, it’s also possible she’ll follow in his footsteps by having a wild, unpredictable ending. If the film does have a twist at the end like her dad’s movies do, then the TV screen showing a dead relative could be a hint at what’s really going on.

Even with this new glimpse at the movie, The Watchers is still shrouded in mystery. It’s still unknown what the supernatural entities in the forest are, how the one-way room ended up in the woods, and what Mina’s captors want from her and the rest of the people trapped there. Given the new details featured in the footage, it appears the answers will be much more complex than monsters in the forest. It’s likely most of the mystery will remain under wraps until the film is finally released.
