Not even a kneecap fracture could stop Keanu Reeves from filming his new comedy Good Fortune. Written, directed by, and starring Parks and Recreation’s Aziz Ansari, Good Fortune will see the John Wick and TheMatrix star appear as Ansari’s guardian angel whose plans to provide his mortal charge with an important life lesson go seriously awry. Two weeks after shooting had officially begun in January 2024, images of an injured Reeves on crutches went viral prompting an outpouring of concern, even causing the #GetWellSoonKeanu hashtag to begin trending.
Speaking at this year’s CinemaCon (via People), Ansari revealed the reason behind Reeves’ highly-publicized injury was due to a kneecap fracture he sustained after “he tripped on a rug.” However, according to the movie’s star and director, Reeves was “such a trooper” and still able to film everything he needed to aside from some salsa dancing scenes. About, I don’t know, 15 days into shooting with me, I was like, ‘Hey, just go chill in your dressing room for 15 minutes.’ And he tripped on a rug. He’s like, ‘Aah, my knee.’
He still filmed everything except some scenes where he needed him to do salsa dancing, which we need to pick up. He was like, ‘I’ll do it!’ We’re like, ‘Keanu, calm down. We’ll do the salsa dancing once your knee’s healed.’
