Andrew Garfield Spider-Man Villain Actor Bluntly Responds To Return Chances 10 Years Later

One of the prominent actors who played a major villain in Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise reveals if he’d want to revisit his Marvel character. Despite having a short run as the web-slinger, Garfield’s Spider-Man got another chance as he reprized the role in 2021 as part of the Spider-Man: No Way Home cast. In addition to him, a handful of Garfield’s Spider-Man villains took part in the multiverse adventure.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Dane DeHaan, who played Harry Osborn, a.k.a. Green Goblin, in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie cast, was asked if he would like to reprise his character. While DeHaan stressed to “never say never,” he isn’t expecting to get that call anytime soon, sharing the following:

I mean, never say never, but honestly, I haven’t spoken to anyone that has to do with the producer side of Spider-Man in like, 10 years. So I would be shocked to get that phone call. [Chuckles]…I mean, look, I love playing like comic book characters, superheroes, that kind of thing. I would be very interested in returning to that world in some way. But for it to be Spider-Man related, I would just be absolutely shocked, because, again, I haven’t gotten a phone call, an email, anything from those people in 10 years.

How Dane DeHaan’s Green Goblin Could Still Return In Marvel’s Movie Future

Despite not appearing in the MCU timeline via Spider-Man: No Way Home, DeHaan’s version of Green Goblin could re-emerge through a couple of Marvel options. One of them would be The Amazing Spider-Man 3, as there has been a consistent movement to see Garfield get his third film produced. In terms of other Sony-Marvel properties, DeHaan’s Marvel foe could also show up in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, as those films do crossover between animation and live-action.

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DeHaan could show up in big multiverse projects like Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars, as those films will likely revisit a lot of Marvel-related live-action properties. Not only does it give the audience a chance to see what DeHaan’s Green Goblin is up to at this point, but it is also a natural way to bring back Garfield’s Spider-Man. At the very least, they could have a brief scene to show that Spider-Man and Green Goblin had more showdowns after the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

While The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was handed poorly by Sony Pictures, DeHaan’s casting as Green Goblin was not one of the weaker points of the 2014 movie. Sadly, DeHaan never got a chance to flesh out his version of the Marvel villain, since The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 got scrapped. Hopefully, The Amazing Spider-Man universe will be explored to some extent in the foreseeable future.
